Hi! I’m Mary McMyne, and this is my (very occasional) author newsletter. If you’re receiving this email, it’s probably because you signed up for my newsletter when I was promoting my fairytale chapbook, Wolf Skin, years ago. You may have asked for updates via my website, or you’re a friend or family member who I thought would be interested in receiving updates on my books. If you aren’t interested in receiving these updates, my apologies! You can opt out of receiving these emails.
I’ve been really slow to start this newsletter because I was working on writing and selling my novel, as well as teaching, but I’ve recently gotten some great news—a ray of light, if you will, in these ridiculously difficult times. My debut novel, The Book of Gothel, a historical reimagining of the Rapunzel folktale from the perspective of the witch, will be published next year by Hachette Orbit/Redhook in the United States and Orbit UK in the United Kingdom!
The Book of Gothel tells the story of how Haelewise, the peasant woman who would become known as the witch from Rapunzel, discovers the legendary tower and becomes caught in a dangerous web of intrigue woven by royals and the Church. Some of the characters Haelewise encounters on her journeys are Beatrice of Burgundy, St. Hildegard of Bingen, and Frederick Barbarossa. You can learn more about the novel in this post on the Orbit blog.
I’ve been working with my editor on the book for a few weeks now, and I’m excited to turn it in soon. I also can’t wait to get to work on my second novel, which Orbit also bought as part of my two-book deal. The second book will be another historical reimagining, though I have been sworn to secrecy about its subject matter—for now!
I’m excited to be able to share the cover of The Book of Gothel with you in a few weeks!
If you’re stumbling across this post on the web, subscribe now so you don’t forget to come by again. If you’re receiving this email, don’t worry, you’ll receive another email automatically in a few weeks or so when I have another update.
In the meantime, tell your friends!
