New giveaway for THE BOOK OF GOTHEL!
Hello, everyone,
It’s May 1, which means there are less than three months remaining until the release of The Book of Gothel! I’ve got a lot of good news to share, but I’ll keep it brief!
First things first: my publisher just kicked off another U.S.-only giveaway for one hundred e-copies of the novel! (If you’re not in the U.S., I’m planning on at least one international giveaway happening later in the summer.) If you’re on Goodreads, you can enter the giveaway here! It will run through May 30.
In April, the trade reviews started coming in for The Book of Gothel. The very first trade review, excitingly, was a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly. Here’s an excerpt:
McMyne’s shimmering debut gives a fresh, exciting backstory to one of the most famous villains in fairy tale lore: the witch who put Rapunzel in her tower… The result is a sprawling epic, full of magic, love, and heartbreak. Fans of Circe and The Wolf and the Woodsman will devour this taut, empowering fairy tale.
You can read the full review here.
The next trade review to come in was from Library Journal, last week:
This debut novel by poet McMyne (author of the Elgin Award–winning fairytale poetry chapbook Wolf Skin) offers a fresh reimagining of the story of Rapunzel’s witch… Readers who have enjoyed Gregory Maguire’s ‘Wicked Years’ series will find McMyne’s perspective delightful.
I can’t link to the full review because it’s behind a paywall, but it also mentions the “lush setting,” “intriguing revelations,” and “themes of motherhood and belonging.” I’m so grateful for how generous these reviewers are being!
I also got to see the final book jacket last month. Here’s a sneak peek at a detail of the spine:
Isn’t it gorgeous!?
And finally, some (wonderful) personal news: I’m due to give birth at the beginning of this month, so I’ll be slow to respond on social media. I’m hoping to spend the rest of May welcoming our second child into the world and recovering from the birth, but looking forward to being more available online in June.
As always, thank you for your support!
Mary
